Dear Washington State Democrats,
Greetings! In introducing myself, Allan Hill, I am an Independent Socialist Democratic who also attends Green party meetings as well. As a social activist with predominantly progressive leanings, our great Mother Earth demands our and specifically, your attention at the moment as she will be speaking through me and in a way that hopefully, that makes you shudder in your shoes.
As she has been summarily dismissed as a non-living thing, her vengeance is misunderstood and even scoffed at by many. The last time I looked, the Bill of Rights of ALL citizens WERE NOT inclusive, and especially, Mother Earth.
I am here to tell you that indeed she most definitely has a spirit and that there is no time limit of that oath, as she will act as she has always had when she sees fit to do so. There is no vengeance here as humanity knows it, albeit there will be great changes happening on an earthly scale as she changes, some of which we have already begun to notice. And this is exactly what I would like to point out to you.
This past October the world’s leading climate scientists have already warned us that there are about a dozen years left for global warming to be kept to a maximum of 1.5C, beyond which even half a degree will significantly magnify the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for literally hundreds of millions of people.
As an activist I am forever reading and to tell you the truth, I am somewhat angered by the thought that the powers that be in our great state have yet to begin to publicly organize on a state-wide basis any plans to confront future damage to our state considering the fact that Olympia itself stands to be inundated in not so peculiar ways considering of the news that what is to be expected have recently come to surface. And if the thought has already been discussed then it is with the same emotion that I ask, ‘and why has it taken this long to bring it to the people of Washington state. This is not a conversation for only those who have been invited, this is a global concern, and it should be considered and dealt with as such. I am now raising this question to the people of Olympia as a citizen.
Being human and having made my share of mistakes in life, after coming to certain truths concerning life from a critical examination of my own life I have realized that when people of conscience do nothing when they are called, the earth dies just a little bit more every time. We are each but mere fibers in this web of life where we are all inextricably connected in one way or another, and whether one chooses to believe it or not, and what happens to one community affects all communities. When one segment of society is marginalized for so long that it is the community that eventually pays the exacting price.
In closing, I am a 67-year-old student of life and I have yet to quit, that is until the hour arrives that the universe decides to install my voice into the universal ether of knowledge and then I will know for sure all those lingering questions I have bought up with people. Until this time arrives, I will boldly fight on for this lovely blue marble that we all call home, and all of its inhabitants, regardless of Neanderthal opinions of denial. Please respond and mention if you would like to consider attending meetings in Olympia concerning public input into the Green New Deal.
