Trafficking: Children’s Pettus Bridge

Trafficking: Children’s Pettus Bridge

We continue to live in a world of slavery on many levels however, none so morbidly appalling and abnormal as sex trafficking and child sex tourism.  Presently as you continue to read this, innocents continue to be abducted, lured away, and coerced into a world of sex slavery.  Threatened with physical abuse, themselves and their families these victims are living a life of horror, imprisonment, and constant abuse.  These victims of sex trafficking while they can be of any age and gender the majority are women and girls.

Designed to lure victims into these circumstances of sex trafficking, include assurances of a profitable employment in other countries, incorrect and false marriage proposal spiraling down into bondage circumstances, being sold for profit into the sex trafficking industry by one’s own family, supposed loved ones, boyfriends and simply being kidnapped by traffickers.  I am sure you are aware of the psychological harm that is done including: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), suicide, suicidal thoughts, acute anxiety and depression.  Other trauma personal trauma include: insomnia, self-loathing, mind/body separation, disassociation, shame, grief, and fear and hatred of men are just some of the changes that may happen to a victim, not to mention traumatic bonding and coercive control form the perpetrator.

In this nation we have existing laws supposed to fight the commercial sexual exploitation of children, a form of human trafficking and they allegedly and supposedly carry harsh penalties, albeit children continue to get arrested and prosecuted for prostitution while their perpetrators run free to continue their egregious acts elsewhere.  It is time to wake with a resounding collective voice that we will not take this anymore, and that we begin to support people like Governor of Illinois Pat Quinn for signing HB 6462, “The Illinois Safe Children Act.”  This law will finally protect all minors under the age of 18 who are found and deemed to have been exploited in prostitution completely immune from prosecution.

In closing, it is time to remove the hypocrisy from the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights that started out as racist rags, by finally confronting ALL forms of slavery.  Only then will we truly be The UNITED States of America.
